Effective Practice Unit Award:
This was a one day training session hosted
by Sally Brown of inclusive learning solutions. The training
was funded by the YOUTH JUSTICE BOARD and was aimed at providing
an introduction to the definition and application of effective
practice, it's roots in the wider concept of evidence-based
practice and the roles of evaluation and reflective practice
in developing an evidence-based approach to practice.
This day also included an overview of the
Mcguire principles, the YJB key elements of effective practice
framework and discussion of the risk and protective factors
that must be taken into consideration when taking part in
workshops with youth at risk.
Madman promotions has undertaken and completed
a 2000 word assessment as part of this training and is awaiting
a grade.
PLUS strategy Enrichment Implementation
Workshop.
This was a one day training session hosted
by Sally Brown of inclusive learning solutions.
The training consisted of an introduction
to PLUS enrichment programmes, the policy and context for
PLUS enrichment and an excellent amount of practical work
and discussion. Enrichment is: structured activities that
provide opportunities for young people to engage in active
learning contexts they will find stimulating and motivating.
Madman promotions especially enjoyed this
session as it became clear just how suitable a DJ workshop
is for including embedded literacy and numeracy activities.
We are in the process of compiling exercises to offer employers
as add-ons to our standard workshops plans.

Create Introduction to Community Arts.
This was a fantastic 3 session course which
gave an overview of community artists, the skills they need,
and the legal issues and policies they must adhere to such
as:
insurance, the child protection act, good
practice for working with children, young people and youth
at risk, equal opportunity law, health and safety, risk
assessments and the 8 steps to COSHH.
Northallerton Y.O.I. Security Breifing.
This was a simple morning of discussion to
give a "heads up" regarding working in secure
institutions. It was not only essential in helping us prepare
for taking on work in such environments but included plenty
of information which has become invaluable in working with
all youth at risk, especially, Yot and N.E.T.E. groups.
Music leader Training session on working
in Pupil Referral Units.
This was a mornings workshop and discussion
with a small group of freelance professionals and aspiring
music teachers. The session was led by Ian Anstee from Live
Music Now and was full of inspiring ideas for ice breakers
and warm ups suitable for music based sessions, particularly
in pupil referral units.
Music Leader Personal Development
Plan.
This was a one to one session with Deborah
Walsh of Education Leeds. The session involved discussing
past experience, future plans and possibilitiesfor furthering
professional development.
The outcome was a list of networking and training
options that we continue to follow and investigate. Currently
under consideration is beginning a Btec in Music Technology
to add recognised qualifications to our already extensive
experience and knowledge base.
